Exciting News!

We recently attended the Royal Television Society Midlands Awards and we’re thrilled to share that our Opening Titles for Commonwealth Games 2022 video won the award for Best Animation 2023!

Commissioned by Sunset+Vine and broadcast around the world, our film captures the excitement and emotion the games brought to Birmingham. It combines live action and animation, highlighting some of Birmingham’s most iconic locations through aerial drone footage and dynamic hyperlapses, blended together with fast-paced, colourful character animation.

From animated athletes diving into Birmingham’s canal to using the Bullring bull as a pommel horse, the film creatively intertwines a diverse array of sports with well known areas across Birmingham, creating the impression that sport and community is part of the heart of the city.

Spark’s Co-Director, Scott Barnett, said: “I am thrilled and honoured to receive the Best Animation award for the Opening Titles of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022. This achievement is a testament to the creativity and talent of our team at Spark Media.

Capturing the essence of our vibrant city and bringing to life the spirit of the Commonwealth Games has been a truly rewarding experience. This accolade not only recognises our dedication to excellence in animation but also highlights Birmingham’s rising prominence in this field. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this project a success and to the RTS for this fantastic recognition.”
