We made two TV ads for Solihull College & Stratford-upon-Avon College. The goal was to show off their college facilities and the wide range of courses on offer in a way that felt fun and different from the usual college advert.
The colleges had invested a lot into their campuses in recent years and wanted to get that across to future students. They asked us to highlight both the facilities and what student life is like, but in a style that people would remember.
We asked ourselves: how do you capture the energy of a college? We came up with the idea to use an FPV drone to fly through the campuses, linking different subjects with quick, creative transitions.
Starting with a live band in the theatre, flying straight through a car window in the motor workshop, and popping out in the TV studio…
This approach let us show a mix of courses and give prospective students and parents a look at the campus from angles you don’t normally see.
Our producer Georgia and drone pilot Harry worked out the flight path, picked the best days for outdoor shots, managed student traffic indoors and flew the drone through carefully choreographed sequences. Our Director Scott worked with the client on the script, and we sourced young voiceovers to bring personality to the ads and tie it all together.
We make a lot of videos for schools and colleges, so this project was a great chance to draw on that experience while pushing ourselves creatively and trying out a new technique.
The finished films are fast, fun, and packed with the variety of college life. They give a real sense of the facilities, the courses, and the students who make up both campuses. The feedback so far has been really positive.
