The Sustainable Housing Action Partnership (SHAP) commissioned us to create the brand identity, posters, editable templates and an animated explainer video for their new initiative, Powering Up Castle Vale. Supported by Birmingham City Council and West Midlands Combined Authority, the project is all about working with the Castle Vale community to explore what’s possible when residents shape their own energy future and develop a plan based on their ideas, concerns and priorities.
We set out to build a brand identity that would feel relevant and appealing to the people of Castle Vale.
Starting with sketches, we explored visual directions before developing the client’s initial logo idea into a cleaner, more versatile version, including a simplified mark that worked well in animation.
Once the style and colour palette were in place, we created a full set of assets for future use – from general icons like solar panels, electric cars and recycling bins, to location-specific illustrations such as the Castle Vale statue and Spitfire Island.
We also produced a brand guidelines document to tie everything together.
Next, we applied the identity to a suite of promotional materials, designing pop-up banners, bus shelter posters and editable Canva templates.
Alongside this, our animation team developed a 2-minute animated explainer video. They created a storyboard and script for client approval, then animated the full piece while our Producer sourced a local voiceover artist to narrate the film.
The project was delivered on a tight turnaround, and the client was delighted with the outcome. The branding and assets are already visible across their new website and wider campaign, helping to give Powering Up Castle Vale a strong, recognisable identity.
